This all-star set of holiday blues features some of the biggest stars, best songs and most memorable Christmas-themed performances ever captured on wax, some appearing on LP for the very first time. With good tidings from the soulful, cool blues innovator Charles Brown and his essential “Please Come Home for Christmas,” Chuck Berry’s incomparable rocker “Run Rudolph Run,” guitarist-singer extraordinaire Freddy King’s deep blues “Christmas Tears,” B.B. King’s supple, swinging “Christmas Celebration,” and John Lee Hooker’s funky, flat-broke “Blues for Christmas,” it’s a knock-out assemblage of world-class blues talent. You also get a full Christmas buffet of fabulous sides by New Orleans great Huey Smith, blues master Jimmy McCracklin, along with lesser known (but no less able) outfits like the Heartbeats, Shantons and Falcons, topped off with a rich serving of soul-stirring gospel courtesy of such fabled groups as Golden Gate Quartet and Swan Silvertones.
