Space-age jazz starts here — exotic percussion, cosmic swing, and sounds beamed in from tomorrow.
Recorded in October 1961, just after the Arkestra touched down in New York, and produced by a young Tom Wilson — later famed for Bob Dylan and the Velvet Underground — this is Sun Ra’s visionary early statement, with John Gilmore, Marshall Allen, and Pat Patrick aboard.
Bells from India, Chinese wind chimes, and gongs color tracks like “Tapestry from an Asteroid” and “Space Jazz Reverie,” where hard-swinging roots meet interstellar ambition. The launching pad for jazz’s strangest and grandest voyage.
