The 1959 long playing album ‘A Winter Romance’ by Dean Martin, accompanied by an orchestra is not exclusively a Christmas album but features several songs associated with Christmas as part of its larger winter theme perfect for the whole season. At its release it was initially chosen as one of the “Spotlight Winners of the Week” by Billboard magazine and commented that “The tunes are all on the winter kick … Martin sings them with his usual ease and nonchalance … A potent waxing for the holiday season”. Dean Martin, nicknamed “The King of Cool”, was one of the most popular entertainers of the mid-20th century. Throughout his career, Martin performed in concert stages, nightclubs, audio recordings and appeared in 85 film and television productions and sold 12 million records in the US alone, over 50 million worldwide.
